Here’s my best spot in Morocco, I did this years ago with some European friends and always wanted to do it again. Here it is: Go to Marrakech, then to Imlil and climb Toubkal..i know I know some are going to say, he’s nuts, climbing Toubkal? it is not as hard as you may think, it takes from 7 am to 5 or 6 pm in the evening to do. It’s walking mostly; the climb is not too steep. I did it when it was covered with snow; it was a bit hard as I did not have climbing shoes and kept sliding, mostly close to the top where the wind is strong. You will pass by amazing views you don’t even think exist in Morocco, villages like nothing you ever seen, Aremd is one, Sidi Chamharouche is another that you will stop to rest in on the way. And once on top, there’s a refuge where you can spend the night for really really cheap, they prepare food for you, too. at Imlil, you can put you backpack on a mule for some dirhams and walk freely. these mules know the roads very well, and your bag will be waiting for you at the summit. I was choked when I opened the refuge guest book to sign it, so many foreigners, I mean from all over the world, but very small numbers of Moroccan names. You will need camera with lots of memory cards and papers to write poetry, it’s that amazing, I assure you.!!!
