As a student residing in France, I find myself in a unique situation that prompts me to question the obligation of performing the sacrifice given my current circumstances. Allow me to provide some background on my situation. I am living in a shared accommodation with my younger sister, separated from my divorced parents. My mother and stepfather reside abroad and do not financially support me, although they are available to assist me in case of financial difficulties (Alhamdulillah, I have not faced such difficulties thus far). My father and stepmother live in France and provide me with a monthly allowance of 100 euros for groceries, while my expenses amount to approximately 250 euros. I am solely responsible for other expenses, including rent and medical costs. Additionally, I have a significant amount of money in my bank account as I plan my finances one year in advance, ensuring that the funds currently available will be utilized for the upcoming year and beyond. Purchasing a sacrificial animal would have a negative financial impact on my situation for the following year. In light of these circumstances, I find myself in a predicament as to whether I should proceed with the ritual sacrifice. I seek to make an informed decision, considering both religious teachings and my financial responsibilities. Furthermore, I would like to mention that both my stepfather and my father have planned to perform their own sacrifices for Eid al-Adha. It is within this context that I humbly request your advice and guidance. Given my current financial situation, would it be recommended or preferable for me to also perform a sacrifice, while hoping that it will not compromise my finances for the upcoming year, inshaAllah?
