He sparked outrage across the Muslim world in September, when he quoted a 14th-Century Christian emperor who criticized the Prophet Mohammed PBUH. The Turks are on the street to protest against this visit, would it be smart to use this visit to show the head of the Vatican what Islam is really about? Or to show him the anger and the rage his comment had created? In my view, we already had shown our outrage and disgust with the comments and we should now talk and show this man the true Islam. He tried, while not meeting the level of apology wanted by most Muslims, to reconcile, some Muslim scholars accepted his apologies but some did not. There has to be a limit to what the part of Muslims who do not accept the apology wants him to do. After all, aren’t we the ones with dine attasaamoh? So forgiveness shouldn’t be something new for us. will the door be open to him? We’ll see in 2 days.
peace,
