A man from Durham, a city in northeast England, has been charged by federal authorities with supporting ISIS and attempting to join the terrorist group after a trip to Morocco. Court documents unsealed on Tuesday revealed that the 29-year-old, who went by the name Sulaiman Al-Amriki online, began posting his support for ISIS on Facebook between May and October.
The man allegedly planned to join ISIS after a trip to Morocco. He was arrested while attempting to board a plane to Morocco after booking flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Paris and Rabat on December 4, with a return scheduled for December 18.
The documents further show that the man openly discussed his desire to travel overseas and join ISIS with several individuals on Facebook. Between June and August 2024, he reportedly communicated with a user claiming to be from Morocco who offered to help him join the group.
FBI agents arrested the man at 7:50 p.m. on December 4 after he cleared the gate and attempted to board the plane. He has been charged with conspiring to provide and attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS.
