The curtain rose again this Monday in Créteil, a suburb of Paris, on the case that has haunted Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred for nearly a decade. The 40-year-old artist is appearing in court for an appeal on charges of rape and aggravated assault, attending the trial as a free man under judicial supervision.

In the initial trial, he was sentenced to six years in prison for incidents that occurred in 2016 in a Paris hotel room. The victim, whom he met just hours earlier at a nightclub, accuses the pop star of beating and then raping her.

While Lamjarred continues to deny any sexual relationship with Laura P., the young woman’s lawyers told AFP, «This new trial represents much more than just a procedure for our client. It is the hope for justice to be fully and finally served».

The jury’s decision is expected on Friday, June 6. Additionally, the singer faces similar charges in Draguignan, in a case yet to be tried.
