The 2030 FIFA World Cup offers a strong foundation for lasting cooperation between the host countries, Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. But beyond this major sporting event, a broader dynamic is emerging, particularly in the area of cultural tourism. In this context, the province of Seville is positioning itself as a key destination for Moroccan travelers, building on the deep historical and cultural ties that link the two regions.
Rooted in a rich shared past associated with Al-Andalus, this initiative is now taking shape in the present with a vision for a sustainable future. Central to this approach is the Destination Seville 2025 tourism promotion plan, developed in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Morocco and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Casablanca. The plan’s main initiatives were presented on Wednesday, July 25, at the Spanish embassy in Rabat.
The event brought together Moroccan tour operators, travel agents, institutional representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps. It featured a presentation of the action plan by Prodetur, the local economic development agency, in partnership with the province’s tourism business associations.
History for tourism
In his remarks, Spain’s ambassador to Rabat, Enrique Ojeda, himself a native of Seville, highlighted the long-standing historical bonds between Morocco and his hometown. He emphasized that Seville’s presence in Rabat was not merely a promotional activity but a way to reconnect with a fundamental element of shared identity. «Today, tourism offers a privileged means of building lasting bridges between our peoples», he said, as quoted by Europa Press.
Rodrigo Rodríguez Hans, Vice President of Prodetur, echoed this sentiment, underlining the enduring connection between Seville and Morocco. He pointed to the Andalusian heritage that continues to shape Seville’s architecture, cultural landmarks, and way of life, affirming that it naturally and sustainably unites the two regions. «That is why we present Seville not just as a nearby tourist destination, but as a space for cultural, economic, and human exchange», he added, as head of the Seville delegation in Rabat.
The event concluded with a flamenco concert by pianist David Peña Dorantes, whose performance was described by organizers as «a renewing bridge between cultures», perfectly reflecting the event’s spirit of cultural rapprochement and historical continuity.
Also present were several representatives of Seville’s tourism sector, including Manuel Cornax, president of the Tourism Commission of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Seville and the Seville Hotel Association; Rafael Domínguez, director of the Association of Tourist Companies of Seville; María Ceballos, vice-president of the Active Tourism Platform of the province; and Manuel Domínguez, president of the Skal Club Sevilla and the Seville Downtown Association.
