Just ten days after being convicted in a previous defamation case, the Superior Court of Quebec issued a new verdict on Thursday, July 24, 2025, against Moroccan YouTuber Hicham Jerando. The court sentenced him to one month in prison, 150 hours of community service, and a fine of 10,000 Canadian dollars.

This ruling follows a defamation complaint filed by Moroccan judge Abdelrahim Hanin, after Jirando—who resides in Canada—posted a series of videos on his YouTube channel containing offensive accusations against the judge.

Earlier, on Monday, July 14, Jirando was convicted in another defamation case involving Moroccan lawyer Adil Said Lamtiri, a member of the Casablanca Bar Association. In that case, the court ordered him to pay 164,514 Canadian dollars in financial and punitive damages and issued an immediate order to remove all defamatory content, enforceable even if an appeal is filed.

These legal setbacks come as Jirando remains wanted by Moroccan authorities following a ruling in absentia issued last May by the Criminal Chamber of the Rabat Court of Appeal. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of «forming a terrorist group to prepare and commit terrorist acts as part of a collective project aimed at seriously undermining public order through intimidation, threats, and violence, and inciting others to commit terrorist acts».

Hicham Jirando is known for his strong anti-government views and controversial online content. He is also suspected of being involved in a blackmail and incitement case, based on a complaint filed by a Moroccan citizen who alleges that she and her family were subjected to a campaign of threats and defamation by a network allegedly led by him.
