In 2024, global blueberry exports reached a major milestone, surpassing one million tons and generating $6.733 billion in revenue. Within this thriving market, Peru maintained its position as the leading exporter, commanding a 31% share. Chile, Spain, and Morocco followed with 8% each, while the United States accounted for 7%.

Morocco made a remarkable leap on the global stage, climbing from seventh to fourth place in just one year. This advancement places the country among the world’s top five blueberry exporters, highlighting its rapid emergence as a key player in the industry.

Between 2009 and 2024, Morocco’s blueberry exports skyrocketed from just 636 tons to a record 83,000 tons, a staggering average annual growth rate of 43%. This growth reflects the development of a dynamic and competitive sector built on the country’s natural, technological, and geographic advantages.

Morocco’s success is rooted in its favorable agricultural and climatic conditions. With mild winters and warm, dry summers, the country can support multiple harvests per year and achieve high yields per hectare. Regions such as Souss and the eastern provinces provide fertile, well-drained soils ideal for growing blueberries with excellent texture and a distinctive flavor.

Morocco’s strategic location near Europe gives it a crucial logistical edge, allowing fresh produce to reach major markets like Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany with reduced shipping times and peak freshness. This proximity, coupled with competitive transportation costs, enhances the appeal of Moroccan blueberries. Furthermore, the country’s adoption of modern agricultural technologies and best practices has elevated production standards, enabling it to meet rising global demand with efficiency and quality.
