King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolences and compassion to the family of Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich, Sheikh of the Qadirya Boutchichia Order.
In this heartfelt message, the Sovereign extended his deepest sympathy to the deceased’s family, followers, and admirers of the Qadirya Boutchichia Order in Morocco and abroad. He prayed to the Almighty to grant patience and solace to all those affected by this loss.
The King praised the late Sheikh’s life-long dedication to serving Islam, promoting its principles of tolerance and moderation, and preserving its spiritual, Sufi, and Sunni values. He also highlighted his unwavering loyalty to the Alaouite Throne, his steadfast commitment to the nation’s constants, and his devotion to the Institution of Imarat Al Mouminine.
Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich passed away on Friday in Rabat at the age of 83. He will be laid to rest on Sunday at the Zaouia headquarters in Madagh.
Born in 1942 in Madagh, he was a leading figure of Sufism in Morocco. He began his studies at the Zaouia, later attended Moulay Idriss High School in Fez, and continued at the Faculty of Sharia before enrolling at Dar Al-Hadith Al-Hassania in Rabat, where he earned a degree in Islamic sciences. In 2001, he defended his doctoral thesis, The Institution of the Zaouia in Morocco: Between Authenticity and Modernity.
He assumed leadership of the Qadirya Boutchichia Order after the death of his father, Hamza Al-Qadiri Al-Boutchichi, on January 18, 2017, at the age of 95.
