The Spanish National Police announced on Monday, August 18, the successful arrest of two individuals suspected of having ties to jihadist terrorism in Vallfogona de Balaguer (Lleida). This operation was conducted in close collaboration with Moroccan authorities.
According to «Europa Press», citing security sources, the detainees are two young men, aged 24 and 26. They face charges related to self-radicalization through extremist propaganda, active involvement in terrorist indoctrination, and participation in related activities.
The investigation commenced a year and a half ago after specialized agencies identified an individual exhibiting intensive online activity linked to ISIS-affiliated websites.
The police noted that one of the detainees was particularly radicalized, frequently accessing jihadist platforms, consuming extremist propaganda, and acting as a recruitment and indoctrination intermediary with the aim of executing terrorist attacks.
Last Thursday morning, security forces executed an operation that culminated in the arrests in Lleida. Searches of their residences led to the seizure of several electronic devices, which are currently under scrutiny.
The suspects were presented before the investigating judge of Central Court No. 1 of the National Court, who ordered the main suspect to be held in pre-trial detention.
This operation was orchestrated by the General Information Commission, in cooperation with regional information teams in Lleida, Tarragona, and Barcelona. It was conducted under the oversight of Central Court No. 1 and the National Court Prosecutor's Office, in direct coordination with Morocco's General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance.
