This week, two supervisors at a summer camp in Ras El Ma, Ifrane, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in a sexual assault case against a minor. This action followed directives from the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Meknes Court of Appeal.
According to media sources, the camp director intervened after catching one of the supervisors in the act of attempting to rape a young camper. The director immediately alerted the Royal Gendarmerie, who swiftly apprehended the suspect along with another supervisor.
Reports suggest that the second supervisor is accused of being aware of the incident but failing to notify the administration or the relevant authorities, an omission deemed a violation of both legal and ethical responsibilities.
In response to the incident, the National Camping Federation in the Fes-Meknes region issued a statement, characterizing the event as an isolated occurrence. They labeled it as «a disgraceful behavior that is entirely disconnected from the administration and educational staff, who acted responsibly to uncover, report, and address the situation.»
The National Camping Federation underscored that «the safety and physical and psychological well-being of children are non-negotiable, representing a collective responsibility shared by the state, civil society, and families.»
The federation also highlighted that any «deviant behavior or abnormal act is an isolated individual incident and should not be seen as reflective of the entire educational camping system, nor should it overshadow the dedication and responsibility of the thousands of children and associations engaged in this field.»
