The defense team of Morocca activist Ibtissame Lachgar, who appeared on Wednesday before the primary court for the second session of her trial on charges of insulting Islam, has requested her temporary release, according to Hespress.

Her lawyers, three in total, presented several arguments in support of the request, stressing that she is scheduled to undergo urgent surgery next September on her left arm, which is partially prosthetic.

They explained that her doctor has warned that postponing the procedure could result in the amputation of what remains of her arm. The defense also noted that Lachgar is battling cancer and its complications, and requires both medical and psychological care.

Lachgar was arrested on August 10 in Rabat after posting a photo on social media in which she wore a T-shirt with phrases considered offensive to God.
