Olympique Marseille have secured the signing of Moroccan international defender Nayef Aguerd from English side West Ham United in a deal worth around €23 million. The move marks Aguerd’s return to Ligue 1 after a successful spell with Real Sociedad, where he made 36 appearances last season.

From the start of the transfer window, Marseille’s management made defensive reinforcements a priority, especially with the club competing in the Champions League this season. After bringing in CJ Egan-Riley and Facundo Medina, the club sought a more experienced profile and, following close monitoring by Mehdi Benatia and Pablo Longoria, set their sights on Aguerd.

Under the agreement, the 29-year-old will sign a contract running until 2030. He is expected to leave England for Marseille in the coming hours to finalize the deal and link up with Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.

Aguerd, who previously played in France for Dijon and Rennes, is also a cornerstone of Morocco’s national team defense, with 55 international caps and two goals to his name. His arrival is viewed as a major boost for Marseille’s backline ahead of the new season.
