A Moroccan migrant accused of setting a 17-year-old girl on fire, who is under the guardianship of the regional government, has been temporarily released in the La Isleta neighborhood of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria while investigations continue.
The incident dates back to July, when the 20-year-old suspect allegedly ignited fuel-soaked papers and threw them at the victim, leaving her with severe burns covering 95% of her body. She was later transferred in critical condition to the intensive care unit of a local hospital. The suspect also sustained injuries from smoke inhalation, according to Spanish media.
The girl had reportedly been living with the suspect in a squatted house, despite his arrival in Spain via an irregular migration boat and being subject to a deportation order.
