The United Nations Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, is scheduled to arrive in the Tindouf camps this Saturday, September 20. This announcement was made on Friday by the Polisario representative in New York during a press briefing.

This visit is part of a broader tour that Staffan de Mistura embarked on last week, which includes stops in Washington, Algiers, and Moscow. During this diplomatic journey, he held discussions with key figures such as Donald Trump's special advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, Algeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin.

The UN envoy's last visit to the Tindouf camps was on October 3, 2024. However, that visit did not succeed in reigniting the negotiation process, under the United Nations' auspices, involving Morocco, Algeria, the Polisario Front, and Mauritania, which has been at a standstill since March 2018.

The UN Security Council is expected to adopt a new resolution on the Western Sahara issue by the end of October.
