Moroccan footballer Nayef Aguerd assaulted at Marignane airport before joining national team

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd was attacked on Sunday at Marignane airport, as reported by BFM Marseille Provence, citing police sources. The Olympique de Marseille (OM) central defender was targeted just before boarding a flight to join the Moroccan national team for their upcoming matches.

The Atlas Lion «was in the VIP lounge waiting for his flight to Morocco» when an individual «approached him to request his phone number and a selfie», according to the media outlet. «The individual, who seemed unstable, then raised his voice» before attempting to slap the 29-year-old player, who «has not filed a complaint at this time».

The suspect attempted to escape but was swiftly captured by law enforcement and subsequently questioned.
