The Moroccan liaison office in Tel Aviv has successfully negotiated with Israeli authorities for the release of two Moroccan nationals, Aziz Ghali and Abdeladim Ben Draoui, who were detained in Israel due to their participation in the flotilla bound for Gaza.

This resolution marks the end of a growing controversy that has recently dominated both media outlets and social media. On Wednesday, a small group of 11 demonstrators staged a sit-in outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat, calling for the release of Ghali and Ben Draoui.

Aziz Ghali, the former president of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), had previously declined to meet with the head of the Moroccan liaison office in Tel Aviv to discuss his release terms. Instead, he sought direct negotiations with the Moroccan ambassador in Ramallah and the Palestinian authorities.

«The protection offered by the Kingdom to its citizens abroad is a guaranteed right, but it also requires adherence to the laws of host countries and positive cooperation with Moroccan diplomatic and consular missions,” stated a source familiar with the situation.

«The Moroccan State intervenes in the affairs of its citizens, whether domestically or internationally, not under duress or coercion, but in full compliance with national sovereignty and international law,” the source added.

Following the interception of the flotilla heading to Gaza on October 1st, Israeli authorities have already released three Moroccan citizens.
