Moroccan parties blacklist corrupt members ahead of 2026 elections to align with Gen Z demands

Moroccan political parties are seeking to align themselves with the expectations of Generation Z, a generation defined by its demand for transparency and integrity. «In anticipation of the 2026 legislative elections, some parties have drawn up a blacklist of their most corrupt members or those with legal troubles, with the aim of excluding them from the upcoming elections», a party source told Yabiladi.

According to the same source, «political parties, including those within the governing coalition led by Aziz Akhannouch, have already begun compiling the names concerned».

This initiative comes at a time when King Mohammed VI has called for more accountable and citizen-focused governance. In his October 10 address, the monarch emphasized the importance of «paying special attention to guiding citizens and communicating about the initiatives undertaken by public authorities».

The King stressed that this mission «is not the sole responsibility of the government. It concerns everyone, and you, the parliamentarians, are on the front line, as you represent the citizens».

This is not the first time Morocco has sought to promote ethics in political life. At the beginning of Mohammed VI’s reign, authorities had already intervened, particularly in the country’s north, to prevent certain candidates suspected of drug trafficking from running in the 2002 legislative elections.
