Tragedy struck on Saturday at the new port in Laayoune, owned by the Phosboucraa company, when two workers lost their lives in a construction site accident. A lifting truck operated by the Archirodon company plunged into a deep water basin, claiming the lives of the workers.
According to media reports, the truck was transporting three workers when it unexpectedly fell into a water-filled pit. Two workers died instantly, while a third was rescued with great difficulty and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Rescue teams are continuing their search for a fourth worker who was swept away by the waters.
The rescue efforts faced significant challenges due to the pit's depth and the difficult access to the accident site, as reported by the same sources.
Authorities have launched an immediate investigation to uncover the causes of the accident and determine any responsibilities involved.
