The port of Mhiriz, situated just 65 km from the El Guerguerate border post, is set to become operational in the coming days. This announcement was made on Monday, October 27, in the House of Representatives by Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water.
«We expect the port facility to be inaugurated in time for the 50th anniversary of the Green March», the minister declared in response to a question from the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) deputies.
Baraka further noted that, in cooperation with the regional director of the Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, the issue of electrical connection has been resolved, clearing the way for the port’s imminent launch.
The expansion of the port of Mhiriz, originally designed for fishing, began in 2019. This ambitious project demanded an investment of approximately 300 million dirhams.
