The special advisor to President Donald Trump for Africa expressed his enthusiasm on Friday evening following the adoption of Resolution 2797, which extends MINURSO's mandate in the Sahara for another year. He hailed this vote as «historic».

Massad Boulos conveyed his alignment with the American president's call, urging the involved parties to «engage in negotiations without delay to achieve a lasting solution, one of genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty based on Morocco’s credible and realistic Autonomy Proposal».

The advisor also voiced his strong support for the appeal made by «His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the importance of launching a brotherly dialogue between Morocco and Algeria to resolve this issue and build new relations based on trust».

«Under President Trump's leadership, the U.S. remains committed to working with all parties to achieve a just and lasting peace».

In his response to the adoption of Resolution 2797, Massad Boulos notably omitted any mention of the Polisario, a silence that echoes recent remarks by Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's envoy for the Middle East. Witkoff announced the impending conclusion of a peace agreement between Morocco and Algeria «within 60 days». The Polisario, absent from the royal address, finds itself increasingly marginalized.
