Determined to expand into the Moroccan market, British neobank Revolut has appointed Yacine Faqir as CEO for its Morocco operation, he announced Tuesday on LinkedIn. «Proud to hop on the Revolut rocketship as CEO for Morocco and join an exceptional team driven by a deep sense of purpose and ambition. Couldn’t be more excited for what comes next», Faqir wrote.

Before joining Revolut, Faqir served as Vice President of Products & Solutions for North and Francophone Africa at Mastercard, Consultant for the World Bank, and Senior Consultant for fintechs and startups.

This appointment marks Revolut’s next step toward entering the Moroccan market, with ongoing discussions with Bank Al-Maghrib. In September, Governor Abdellatif Jouahri confirmed that the central bank had met with Revolut representatives to review the company’s plans, which include securing a banking license in Morocco. Jouahri noted that any banking license would depend on strict criteria, including project viability, market balance, and compliance with financial regulations.

Valued at over €40 billion, Revolut offers a fully digital, smartphone-based banking experience with services ranging from instant account opening and multi-currency cards to crypto trading and budgeting tools, features that continue to appeal to a young, mobile, and connected clientele.
