The family of lawyer Mohamed Ziane announced, Monday, that following a recent visit, they have confirmed that he «considers himself to be in a state of arbitrary detention since Friday, November 21, 2025, marking the completion of his prison sentence without any reductions».

In their statement, the family emphasized that Ziane is determined to end this situation. He has «informed the prison administration of his decision to embark on an indefinite hunger strike starting Monday, November 24, 2025, until his release, asserting this as his right».

In response, the administration of Al Arjat 1 prison refuted the family's claims, stating that Ziane has not initiated a hunger strike.

The prison administration clarified that Ziane is consuming his meals as usual and has not submitted any formal notification regarding a hunger strike. They further asserted that «all claims made in his family's statement are unfounded».

The same source pointed out that statements made by the detainee's son, who also serves as his lawyer, about the alleged hunger strike «without basis» amount to «endangering him, given the serious health risks associated with such actions».

It is worth noting that Ziane was sentenced to three years in prison in 2022 following a complaint from the Ministry of Interior. The charges included «insulting judges and public officials during their duties with statements and threats aimed at undermining their honor and authority», «insulting organized bodies», «publishing statements intended to influence judicial decisions before a final judgment is issued, and disparaging judicial decisions» and «spreading false statements and facts against a woman because of her gender», among others.

In a separate case involving the embezzlement of funds from the Moroccan Liberal Party during his leadership, the Rabat Court of Appeal sentenced him to an additional three years in prison last May.

His family asserts that he completed his prison term last Friday, based on the combination of the two sentences handed down, in accordance with Articles 119 and 120 of the Moroccan Penal Code, and they are calling for his release.
