The primary criminal court in Tangier sentenced Moroccan-French rapper Walid Georgey, known as MAES, to 7 years in prison on Tuesday night.

The verdict included his conviction on charges of forming a criminal gang, attempted kidnapping and detention, inciting the commission of felonies and misdemeanors, and participation in these acts.

Georgey, who was residing in Dubai before heading to Morocco, was pursued on suspicion of inciting the murder of an individual in Marrakech, alongside nine other defendants.

It is noteworthy that Georgey is also wanted by French judicial authorities, as an international arrest warrant was issued against him on suspicion of involvement in a shooting that occurred in Seine-Saint-Denis in May 2024. According to French media sources, the artist communicated with hired killers through encrypted messages, having previously planned assassinations from Dubai driven by revenge after extortion attempts by those close to him.

French investigators could not interrogate him as he fled to Morocco at the beginning of 2025, before being arrested in Tangier and placed in pretrial detention.

The primary criminal court in Tangier also issued varying sentences for the other defendants, including one person sentenced to 10 years in prison, a second defendant to 7 years, four defendants to 5 years, and five defendants to 1 year with a suspended sentence.
