AFCON 2025 in Morocco : A guide for fans ahead of kick-off

AFCON 2025 in Morocco kicks off in just a few days, with 24 teams competing across six host cities. As fans gear up for the continental tournament, here is a guide to the most important information to keep in mind ahead of the competition.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 will take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. Morocco is hosting the competition for the second time in its history, with 24 national teams competing across six groups.

As anticipation builds, supporters are eager to understand the key details of this historic edition. Here is a guide to the most important information to keep in mind ahead of the tournament, as shared by CAF.

Participating teams

Morocco headlines Group A, alongside Mali, Zambia and Comoros, with the host nation’s Atlas Lions opening the tournament on home soil. The competition also features Africa’s traditional heavyweights, including Egypt, the continent’s most successful team with seven AFCON titles, Nigeria (three titles), Senegal, Algeria, Cameroon, and reigning champions Côte d’Ivoire, who will be aiming to defend their crown, among others.

Match venues

AFCON 2025 will be staged across six Moroccan cities and nine stadiums.

In Rabat, the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex (69,500 seats) serves as the tournament’s flagship venue and will host the opening match and the final. The capital will also use the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium (22,000 seats), the Olympic Annex Stadium (21,000 seats), and the Al Barid Stadium (18,000 seats).

 - Casablanca will host matches at the Mohammed V Sports Complex (around 67,000 seats).
 - Tangier features the tournament’s largest venue, the Grand Stade de Tanger (75,600 seats).
 - Marrakech will use the Grand Stade de Marrakech (around 45,000 seats).
 - Agadir hosts matches at the Grand Stade d’Agadir (around 45,000 seats).
 - Fès completes the list with the Fès Sports Complex (around 45,000 seats).

Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, Agadir and Fès: Group-stage matches and knockout rounds, including round-of-16 and quarterfinal fixtures, depending on progression

Fan Parks across Morocco

CAF has announced eight official Fan Parks, open to all fans holding a valid FAN ID. These spaces will host live match screenings, concerts, food areas, and family-friendly entertainment:

·       Rabat: OLM Souissi Esplanade, Kasbah Témara Square

·       Casablanca: Espace Toro, Espace Météo

·       Agadir: Agadir Beach (La Marina)

·       Fès: Botanical Garden

·       Marrakech: Bab Doukkala Square

·       Tangier: Villa Harris Park

Team base camps and hotels

For the first time in AFCON history, each national team will remain in a single base camp throughout the tournament, combining a five-star hotel and a nearby training facility.

·       Rabat: Morocco (Mohammed VI Football Complex), Algeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana

·       Casablanca: Mali, Zambia, Comoros, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan

·       Agadir / Taghazout: Egypt, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique

·       Marrakech: Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe

·       Fès: Nigeria

·       Tangier: Senegal

Tickets and stadium access

Access to stadiums requires a mandatory FAN ID, available exclusively via the Yalla App. Once validated, tickets can be purchased only through CAF’s official platform: tickets.cafonline.com. CAF also offers hospitality packages, including premium seating and catering services.

With modern stadiums, nationwide fan zones and a packed football calendar, AFCON 2025 promises both a major sporting spectacle and a festive nationwide experience for supporters across Morocco.
