Long queues at the Morocco–Ceuta border as waiting times exceed six hours

Traffic at the Tarajal border crossing is facing severe congestion, with long queues reported for travelers entering Ceuta from Morocco. According to local media, waiting times can reach up to six hours on certain days.

The same sources indicate that exiting Ceuta generally takes between 30 and 45 minutes, while «the real problem arises when entering from the Moroccan side due to ongoing construction work». As a result, affected travelers have filed an official complaint with the Spanish Ombudsman, though no response has yet been received.

Hamadi Amar, president of the Association of Users of the Bab Ceuta crossing, said citizens have been enduring these conditions for months, facing prolonged waits in what he described as «inhumane» circumstances. He cited biting cold, lack of access to water, absence of toilets, and a complete lack of humanitarian assistance or effective organization.

The impact of the congestion has also been felt beyond the border area, extending to the port of Algeciras, where the queues have caused noticeable disruptions to transport operations during this period.
