Morocco to face Tanzania in AFCON round of 16 showdown

Morocco now know their opponent for the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. The Atlas Lions will take on Tanzania next Sunday at 5:00 pm at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Tanzania booked their place in the knockout stage after drawing 1–1 with Tunisia on Tuesday evening at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, finishing among the competition’s best third-placed teams.

The two sides have met several times in recent years, most notably during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Morocco won both legs, securing a 2–0 victory in Dar es Salaam before repeating the same result at home.

They also crossed paths at the previous AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, where the Atlas Lions recorded a convincing 3–0 win, giving the hosts a clear psychological advantage ahead of Sunday’s clash.
