The operation to return residents evacuated to Tangier following the severe weather in the Larache province commenced on Sunday morning. At dawn, families and elderly individuals gathered at the Tangier-Ville station, suitcases in hand, eager to make their way back to Ksar El Kébir.

The first train departed at 8 a.m., carrying nearly 700 passengers, according to local sources. It was one of six scheduled convoys for the day, with a planned stop in Assilah to pick up additional travelers. In parallel, dozens of buses were mobilized to provide direct connections.

The authorities in Tangier-Assilah deployed significant human and logistical resources to oversee the operation, with security forces and assistance services present. The objective: to ensure a gradual, organized, and secure return to neighborhoods where floodwaters have receded and rehabilitation efforts are underway.

In Ksar El Kébir, extensive cleaning operations have been conducted in recent days. Drinking water, electricity, sanitation, and telecommunications networks are gradually being restored, and roads and access routes have been reopened.

At the temporary camp in the Diplomatic Forest, residents were also transported by bus. Before boarding, authorities verified addresses to ensure beneficiaries reside in areas authorized for return. The convoys then departed Tangier under the escort of the Royal Gendarmerie, supported by Moroccan Red Crescent volunteers.

On site, the emotion was palpable. After several days away, returning to their homes marks the beginning of normalization for families affected by the floods.
