Moroccan group condemns participation in US-led Peace Council

The National Working Group for Palestine has expressed concern and condemnation over Morocco’s participation in the «Peace Council» chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, arguing that the initiative lacks transparency and carries what it described as «suspicious» intentions and outcomes.

The group criticized the presence within the council of what it called a war criminal wanted by international justice, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It described this as a «stark contradiction to the principles of peace and political ethics, and as an attempt to whitewash the image of the Israeli occupation through what it termed misleading propaganda».

It also denounced any financial or political commitments Morocco might undertake to join the council, arguing that the imposition of fees by the U.S. administration runs counter to Moroccan public opinion, which supports Palestine, and contradicts Morocco’s historical stance and national dignity.

The group further raised concerns over remarks attributed to Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita about «teaching» Palestinians the values of tolerance amid war and siege.

In conclusion, the group reaffirmed its rejection of any Moroccan involvement in what it considers suspicious alliances or projects. It called on political and civil forces in Morocco to mobilize in defense of Palestine, Morocco’s dignity, and its longstanding positions, stressing that Palestine remains a national cause that cannot be negotiated or reshaped according to the conditions of the oppressor.
