The bill that seeks to designate the Polisario as a terrorist organization is gaining traction in the U.S. Congress. Spearheaded by Republican Joe Wilson and Democrat Jimmy Panetta, this legislative push recently secured the backing of Republican Representative Zachary Nunn, a former U.S. Air Force colonel.

This endorsement, officially documented on February 24, marks the second support received this month, following Republican Representative Pat Harrigan's endorsement on February 13. This growing momentum comes as new round of discussions on the Western Sahara conflict are held in Washington on February 23 and 24, involving Morocco, Algeria, the Polisario, and Mauritania.

Originally introduced on June 24, 2025, by Joe Wilson and Jimmy Panetta, the bill has garnered the support of seven American lawmakers, primarily from the Republican Party.

In addition, Republican Senator Ted Cruz has signaled his intent to propose a similar measure in the Senate to include the Polisario on the U.S. list of terrorist organizations, potentially amplifying the initiative's political influence on Capitol Hill.
