Support is growing in the U.S. Congress for a bill seeking to designate the Polisario as a terrorist organization. The bipartisan initiative, introduced by Republican Joe Wilson and Democrat Jimmy Panetta, has recently gained the backing of Republican Representative Don Bacon.
Bacon’s endorsement, officially submitted on March 3, comes only days after another Republican lawmaker, Zachary Nunn, joined the effort on February 24. The renewed momentum follows the joint U.S.–Israeli offensive launched on February 28 against Iran, which the bill’s sponsors accuse of providing military support to the Polisario.
Don Bacon serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Armed Services and chairs the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Innovation (CITI), adding political weight to his support for the legislation.
Introduced on June 24, 2025, the bill now has the support of eight lawmakers, primarily Republicans, reflecting growing traction for the measure on Capitol Hill.
