Attijariwafa Bank is exploring a potential collaboration with the French start-up Mistral AI, «which recently introduced an artificial intelligence model tailored for financial institutions», reported Africa Intelligence this Tuesday.

The Moroccan banking giant aims to harness generative AI to revolutionize the financial sector, with goals to modernize services, elevate customer experiences, and refine risk management strategies. This technological leap will encompass automating processes, conducting predictive analyses, and enhancing fraud detection capabilities, as noted by the same source.

This investment initiative is part of a broader strategic partnership between Mistral AI and Morocco. On September 23, 2025, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, the Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI. This MoU paves the way for establishing a research and development (R&D) center dedicated to AI in Morocco, marking a pivotal step in the kingdom's ambition to become a regional leader in digital innovation.

In line with this momentum, the American tech giant Oracle officially inaugurated a research and development center in Casablanca, operational since May 2022, with the presence of the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch. Other global tech companies are increasingly recognizing the potential of the Moroccan market, particularly regarding its skilled workforce and digital infrastructure.

Moreover, Morocco is among the founding nations of the Current AI association, launched during the AI action summit in February 2025 in Paris, alongside countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Germany, Finland, Chile, Slovenia, and Switzerland. With a budget of 400 million dollars, this initiative aims to foster ethical and inclusive AI governance on a global level. Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral, is actively involved in this endeavor.

In March, Mistral AI unveiled a suite of solutions called «Mistral AI for Finance», specifically crafted for banks and asset managers. These tools offer advanced financial data processing, automated report generation, and support in investment decision-making, highlighted French media.

Founded in 2023, Mistral AI is currently valued at 12 billion euros.
