President Donald Trump's special advisor for African and Arab affairs, Massad Boulos, recently held talks with General Dagvin Anderson, the head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), who has been in office since August 14, 2025.

«This week, I met again with General Anderson for a discussion on U.S.-Africa security partnerships. We spoke about our joint efforts to strengthen peace and security across North Africa, including the upcoming African Lion exercise in Morocco and Flintlock exercise in Libya that promote regional coordination and cooperation», Massad Boulos stated this Wednesday, March 25.

Just two months after assuming leadership of AFRICOM, General Dagvin Anderson visited Morocco on October 20. During this visit, he held discussions with Abdellatif Loudiyi, the minister delegate in charge of National Defense Administration, as well as General Mohammed Berrid, the inspector general of the Royal Armed Forces and commander of the Southern Zone.

The African Lion 2026 military exercise, a joint effort by the U.S. and Moroccan armed forces, is scheduled to take place from April 20 to May 8, 2026. The exercises will be conducted in various locations, including Agadir, Tan-Tan, Kenitra, and Benguerir.

In preparation for this, Agadir hosted a planning meeting from February 2 to 6 for the 22nd edition of this significant military exercise.
