The Government Council on Thursday adopted two draft decrees related to the election of members of the House of Representatives, presented by the Minister of the Interior.

The first, draft decree No. 2.26.278, amends decree No. 2.11.605 of October 19, 2011, which sets the form and content of the single ballot paper used in elections to the House of Representatives, Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said during a press briefing following the meeting.

The text aims to update the provisions of the existing decree and to clarify how candidate lists are ranked on the single ballot paper, for both general and by-elections.

The second draft decree, No. 2.26.279, amends and supplements decree No. 2.16.668 of August 10, 2016, which sets the ceiling for electoral spending by candidates during legislative campaigns, Baitas added.

This measure seeks to revise current rules on campaign spending to reflect rising costs. The spending cap has been increased from 500,000 to 600,000 dirhams per candidate.

The next legislative elections are scheduled for September 26.
