US Congress: Fresh support for bill targeting Polisario as terrorist group
DR

The momentum behind the U.S. Congress bill to designate the Polisario Front as a foreign terrorist organization continues to build. On April 6, Republican Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar announced her support for the initiative, which was first introduced in June 2025 by Senator Joe Wilson and Representative Jimmy Panetta. Salazar's endorsement follows that of Republican Representative Elise Stefanik, who backed the proposal two weeks prior.

Maria Elvira Salazar, a key player in this development, serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and leads the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere.

Since its introduction, the proposal to label the Polisario as a terrorist group has attracted 11 sponsors within the U.S. Congress, signaling significant backing.

Parallel efforts in the Senate, spearheaded by Republican Senator Ted Cruz, have also gained traction, with four senators lending their support, highlighting the increasing attention this issue is receiving.
