The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, is in Dakar today, Wednesday, nearly a month after the African Champion title was stripped from Senegal and awarded to Morocco.

Motsepe had announced at the end of March that he would visit both Senegal and Morocco to stress the importance of «collaborative efforts to advance African football», amid growing criticism of the CAF.

The CAF President touched down late Tuesday night at Blaise Diagne International Airport near Dakar, where he was welcomed by Abdoulaye Fall, President of the Senegalese Football Federation.

According to a CAF statement, Motsepe will kick off his visit with a tour of Gorée Island, a site rich in historical significance and a poignant symbol of the transatlantic slave trade, located off the coast of the Senegalese capital.

Later, he is expected to meet with Senegalese President Bassiro Diomaye Faye at the presidential palace, followed by a press conference at a hotel in Dakar.

It's worth noting that after the CAF Appeals Committee's decision on March 17, which led to Senegal's disqualification from the final, the Senegalese government demanded an international investigation into «allegations of corruption within the leadership» of the continental body.
