The Mauritanian army has firmly denied any reports of Malian soldiers crossing into its territory, as reported by media outlets in Nouakchott. «All movements of Malian forces have taken place outside Mauritania's borders,» stated the army's communications and public relations department in an official release.

According to the same source, Malian soldiers have indeed been active in several villages within Malian territory, specifically in Lebezia, Kat'a al-Dafou, Ahl Ibrahim, and Fossat. These locations are positioned between 6 and 10 kilometers from the Mauritanian border, based on official maps.

The statement also emphasized that these movements are not unprecedented, noting that similar activities have occurred in the past without infringing on Mauritanian sovereignty.

The Mauritanian army has called upon media outlets and social media users to be vigilant and refrain from disseminating unverified information, to avoid causing unnecessary alarm and confusion among the public.

The allegations initially surfaced from Polisario supporters in the Tindouf camps and later spread to Mauritania. This misinformation coincided with the Malian government's decision to withdraw recognition of the self-proclaimed «Sahrawi Republic».

Notably, the Mauritanian government did not send an official representative to the 50th anniversary celebration of the «SADR» in the Tindouf camps last week, despite Brahim Ghali's Thursday speech lauding Nouakchott's «support» for his movement.
