The Polisario invited a delegation of its supporters from Western Sahara to take part last week in the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)». The delegation, led by Mohamed Dadech, an activist known for his presence at major Front gatherings, was received on Monday by Bachir Mustapha Sayed, the new president of the Polisario «parliament», according to media reports from the Tindouf camps.
A notable aspect of the event was the absence of Aminatou Haidar, president of the «Sahrawi Instance against the Moroccan Occupation» (ISACOM), who did not take part in the celebrations, highlighting ongoing tensions with the Polisario leadership.
Sultana Khaya, also a member of ISACOM and a prominent figure among Polisario supporters in Western Sahara, likewise boycotted the commemoration.
Bachir Mustapha Sayed, who previously served as «minister of occupied territories», had in February 2018 criticized what he described as «armchair opposition» among Polisario supporters in the Sahara, instead calling for intensified «street protests».
