Morocco is among the countries targeted by Renault’s plan to cut between 15% and 20% of its global engineering workforce by 2028, representing around 1,600 to 2,400 positions out of 11,000 to 12,000 engineers worldwide, a company spokesperson told AFP on Tuesday.
While high-value activities, such as engineering strategy, advanced technology development, and upstream design, will remain in France, all countries hosting engineering centers, including Morocco, will be required to implement adjustment plans.
The measure, presented by Chief Technology Officer Philippe Brunet as part of the group’s 2030 strategy, aims to «remain competitive». Renault said it does not plan direct layoffs, instead relying on redeployment, reskilling, and early retirement schemes.
The group, which employs around 100,000 people worldwide, said the move is part of a broader reorganization of projects across countries.
The plan will also impact Renault's engineers in Romania, India, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, and Brazil.
