A Ryanair flight bound for Marrakech departed empty from Vatry Airport in northeastern France on April 14, leaving behind all 192 passengers who had booked seats, Le Figaro reported on Sunday.
The incident was caused by a strike by airport security staff at Paris Vatry Airport, which prevented passengers from boarding the flight to Marrakech. Affected travelers were notified via SMS and push notifications and informed of their rebooking options, Ryanair said.
According to airport director Fabrice Pauquet, the situation was unexpected: no security team was present when check-in opened, and it was impossible to deploy a replacement team in time.
To date, none of the affected travelers have received compensation. Responsibility remains disputed with the airport stating that any additional costs fall on the airline. Meanwhile, Rayanair says that no compensation is due as the disruption falls outside the airline’s control.
