The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, is set to visit Algeria and Morocco from April 27 to May 1. According to a statement from Marco Rubio's communication services, «In Algeria, he will meet with officials to explore ways to deepen bilateral ties, focusing on joint efforts to tackle regional security challenges and significant trade agreements with American companies».

Landau «will then proceed to Morocco, where discussions with government officials and business leaders will center on enhancing cooperation in technology and space, as well as reinforcing long-standing security partnerships», the statement continues. «This visit highlights the United States' dedication to fostering regional stability and cultivating economic and strategic alliances in North Africa», it adds.

This visit follows an April 17 meeting in Turkey between Donald Trump's special advisor for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, and the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf.

The Trump administration is keen to swiftly resume discussions on the Sahara issue among the four parties, following two rounds of talks held last February.
