The collaboration between Morocco and the United States is entering a pivotal new phase. «Today, we are excited to witness our partnership extend into the realm of space,» U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced on Wednesday in Rabat, following Morocco's signing of the Artemis Accords.
This statement was delivered during a press conference after Landau's meeting with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad.
«The impressive expansion of the Artemis Accords, now embraced by sixty-four signatories globally, underscores the widespread appeal of their vision for responsible space exploration,» Landau remarked. He emphasized that Morocco has become the 64th nation to join this initiative, which was launched in October 2020 during the first term of President Donald Trump.
The Artemis Accords establish a framework of international principles designed to guide civil space exploration in a peaceful and cooperative manner. They advocate for transparency among nations, the sharing of scientific data, mutual assistance in emergencies, and adherence to existing international laws, particularly concerning the utilization of space resources.
