On Wednesday in Rabat, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita addressed the escalating crisis in Mali during a press briefing. «The Kingdom of Morocco has observed a now evident collusion between separatism and terrorism. This objective alliance poses a threat to regional stability and to Mali,» he stated at a joint press conference with Christopher Landau.
He characterized this complicity as a «risk» for «the Sahel region, which is navigating a very critical phase in its contemporary history.» The Moroccan Foreign Minister stressed the necessity for a unified intervention by all relevant parties, both regional and international, to dismantle this alliance between terrorism and separatism.

Nasser Bourita also called for the creation of «counter-dynamics, stability dynamics that respect the choices of the people and where relationships are based on cooperation rather than blackmail and intimidation.»
The minister reiterated Morocco's strong condemnation of the attacks against the Malian government. Unlike Algeria, the kingdom has consistently upheld Mali's sovereignty, even when the country recognized the «SADR.»
The attacks on the Malian government are carried out by the Azawad Liberation Front, a separatist group, and the jihadists of the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), led by Iyad Ag Ghaly. Both groups, like the Polisario, receive backing from Algeria.
