On Wednesday, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Kenitra sentenced the man accused of assaulting a truck driver in the industrial area of the Kenitra Free Zone, in an incident that occurred at the end of March.
The defendant was handed 15 years in prison and ordered to pay 100,000 dirhams in civil damages to the victim, in recognition of the serious injuries he sustained.
The case sparked widespread outrage on social media after a video showed the attacker striking the victim on the head with a hard object, causing him to collapse. The assault followed a traffic dispute between the two men.
The victim suffered fractures to the head and neck, as well as internal bleeding, and was rushed to hospital in critical condition for urgent treatment.
