On Friday, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau kicked off the military component of his official visit to Morocco. Alongside the U.S. Ambassador to Rabat, Duke Buchan, he toured the Benguerir airbase, as noted in a statement from the U.S. diplomatic mission in the kingdom.

During their visit, the American officials met with both Moroccan and American military personnel collaborating to bolster defense cooperation. "The security of the United States is stronger when we stand united with allies like Morocco," the statement highlighted.

This visit comes on the heels of a trip in January by Bryan J. Ellis, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs.

The Benguerir airbase hosts the Second Parachute Infantry Brigade of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), a prestigious unit specializing in airborne operations and recognized as the first African unit to meet NATO standards. This brigade frequently participates in international military exercises, including African Lion.

In mid-April, Morocco and the United States inked a new ten-year military cooperation agreement, further solidifying their defense partnership.
