The Spanish National Court has launched an investigation into the potential involvement of Civil Guard members in the operation of a second drug-smuggling tunnel discovered in Ceuta. This tunnel, located within a warehouse in the Tarajal area, was used to transport significant quantities of hashish from Morocco.
This investigation, conducted under strict confidentiality and assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit, comes on the heels of the dismantling of a first tunnel during Operation «Hades». This operation resulted in the arrest and interrogation of several Civil Guard members stationed at the port and involved in risk assessment units.
In a related twist, a retired Civil Guard member has been detained, with his arrest extended amid suspicions of acting as a liaison with the Central Operations Unit. Despite denying the charges, authorities have proceeded to question three members of this unit after documenting a meeting between the retired officer, the network leader, and two of its members.
The judiciary's decision to detain him was influenced by phone recordings, which captured conversations about deals, prices, and smuggling techniques, establishing a direct link to the network leader.
