The Association of Supporters of Autonomy in the Saharan Regions has strongly condemned the Polisario Front for launching projectiles targeting the city of Smara, holding the Algerian regime accountable for «stoking tensions and promoting extremism in the region». The association views these attacks as a direct threat to civilian safety and the stability of Morocco's southern provinces.

In a statement, the association described these actions as a breach of the ceasefire agreement and a deliberate attempt to undermine de-escalation efforts and international initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict. The statement comes at a time when the Sahara issue is gaining significant international traction, with backing from the United Nations and major global powers, particularly the United States.

The association also criticized the use of border areas for what it termed «terrorist» activities, urging the United Nations and the international community to take a firm stance on these developments and to actively participate in the «roundtable» process to achieve a lasting political solution under Moroccan sovereignty.

It emphasized that «the language of projectiles will not disrupt the course of development and legitimacy», calling on «Algeria to rein in the militias it supports and arms».

Yesterday, the separatist Polisario Front claimed responsibility for the attack on Smara. Photos and videos circulated online show projectiles landing in various areas, with two near the local prison and a third near the city cemetery.

While no material damage was reported, local sources confirmed that a woman was injured and taken to the hospital.

Following the incident, a team from MINURSO arrived at the scene to conduct field monitoring, inspect the projectile sites, analyze their nature, and document various data related to the attack.
