Bolivia is gearing up to establish new embassies in several Arab nations, including Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. This move is part of a fresh diplomatic strategy spearheaded by President Rodrigo Paz's administration, as revealed by Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo.

Aramayo noted that the initiative hinges on the availability of financial resources. During an interview with the program «Desayuno Informado», he emphasized Bolivia's intent to bolster ties with these countries and eventually establish diplomatic missions there once the necessary resources are secured.

The Foreign Minister explained that the appointments will be phased, beginning with consuls and vice-consuls, and later moving to ambassadors. He also highlighted that ambassadorial appointments require the approval of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly.

This strategic shift follows Bolivia's announcement in February 2026 to suspend its recognition of the «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic» and renew its diplomatic relations with Morocco.

Previously, on January 20, 2020, during the interim presidency of Jeanine Áñez, Bolivia had suspended its relations with the «SADR», a decision that was reversed on September 15, 2021, after Luis Arce, representing the Movement for Socialism, assumed the presidency.
