Since the beginning of the year, Abdellatif Hammouchi has intensified his international engagements. These visits, often to countries where security cooperation with Morocco remains relatively discreet or is currently being strengthened, highlight the kingdom’s growing role as a key player in the fight against terrorism, extremism, and organized crime.
From February 8 to 12, 2026, Hammouchi led a Moroccan security delegation to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of the head of Saudi State Security to participate in the third edition of the World Defense Show 2026 in Riyadh. The visit enabled the Moroccan delegation to explore the latest technological advances in security and defense while discussing new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in intelligence, technical assistance, and security innovation. It also reflected Morocco’s increasing interest in advanced technologies applied to security.
The momentum continued with a working visit to Sweden on April 20 and 21. In Stockholm, the head of the DGSN and DGST met with the Swedish Minister of Justice as well as senior police and internal security officials. The meetings resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening security cooperation between the two countries, particularly in information sharing, expertise exchange, and coordination in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, illegal immigration, and cybercrime.
Swedish authorities also proposed Morocco’s membership in the European Research and Tracking Network, recognizing the effectiveness and credibility of Moroccan security services.
Morocco, a Growing Security Partner
From May 5 to 7, Hammouchi traveled to Austria to take part in the 23rd regional meeting of intelligence and security services held in Vienna under the auspices of the United Nations. During the gathering, the Moroccan delegation presented the kingdom’s experience in combating terrorism and violent extremism. Bilateral talks were also held with several Austrian officials, including Sylvia Mayer, Director of State Security and Intelligence.
Austrian authorities praised the decisive role played by Moroccan security services in dismantling several terrorist cells in Europe and expressed their willingness to deepen cooperation with Rabat and benefit from Moroccan expertise in security matters.
Immediately after the visit to Austria, Hammouchi traveled to Turkey for a two-day visit on May 7 and 8 at the invitation of the Director General of the Turkish National Police. The visit took place as part of the fifth edition of the SAHA 2026 exhibition in Istanbul, dedicated to defense, aerospace, and armament industries.
The Moroccan official met with the head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization, along with several defense sector officials. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral security cooperation and reviewing the latest technological innovations related to security systems and equipment.
These successive visits to Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Austria, and Turkey, combined with Morocco’s ongoing security initiatives with partners including the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq, Libya, Oman, Tunisia, Sudan, and Pakistan, illustrate the growing scope of Moroccan security diplomacy.
Morocco is increasingly positioning itself as a reliable and credible partner within regional and international security frameworks, as well as a central actor in the global fight against terrorism and transnational crime.
