U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan III thanked Moroccan authorities for their «swift response, professionalism, and unwavering commitment» in the search and rescue operations following the disappearance of two American soldiers during the African Lion military exercise.
Buchan said in a statement shared on social media on Sunday that Morocco’s handling of the operation reflects «the strength of our partnership and shared humanity».

The ambassador also extended his condolences to the family of the U.S. soldier who died during the incident and expressed support for the relatives of the second soldier, who remains missing.
The ambassador’s statement came after Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Civil Protection teams located and recovered one of the missing soldiers on May 9 at around 8:55 a.m., following intensive joint search operations conducted with U.S. forces.
Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing to locate the second American soldier, who has been missing since May 2.
